True Nature

Never mind what people do
They stare like children at the zoo
It feels odd to see their faces
Their blank expressions betray their ignorance
If they could only share my stage
Their hearts would burn a fiery rage

My true nature points the way
My true nature I must stay

I go about what I know is right
Although I swim against the tide
The teachers, priests and politicians
All claim to have the answers
They teach and preach and spin my world
But all they do is cause a blur

My true nature points the way
My true nature I must stay

The stars are bright against the black
It’s not the contrast which they lack
They summon me like lonely beacons
And all I want is to drench in their warmth
One day I’ll break the chains of life
The sorrow, pain and all its strife

My true nature points the way
My true nature I must stay

Stay with me dear, I need you close
What I desire is the love we chose
Your love, compassion and understanding
Anchors my mind and comforts my soul
The things I seek perhaps are elusive
Your touch, I know, makes life conclusive

My true nature points the way
My true nature I must stay

The day will come, I will confirm
The knowledge I lust will find my turn
For now I chew on my frustration
And spit out the bits of human selfishness
The world as one is what I dream
Its birth is labour that makes us scream
